The Band

"High-Octane Rock" is the self-coined phrase that best sums up what our Huntsville-based quartet is all about. Basically put; we’re a group of fun-loving, high-energy, straightforward rockers, but with a unique style, wisdom and savoir-faire that transcends most other bands of equal years. Our music is as diverse and storied as the backgrounds we come from, thus everything we are goes into the music we write and perform. We are a band that lives to entertain and write music from the heart despite whatever "Flavor of the Month" sound may be hip at the time.

The band originally formed in August of 1994 and now consists of Tim Humlicek [drums + vocals], David McCullough [lead vocals], Craig Smoot [guitar + vocals] and Brad Long [bass + vocals]. Over the years we’ve garnered endorsements from highly esteemed musical instrument companies such as Rivera Amplification, EMG Pickups and Svetlana Tubes, going so far as appearing in their product catalogs and websites. We've headlined numerous shows and performed at major events in the North Alabama area (e.g., Nightmare on Clinton Street ’05, Big Spring Jam IX, RVZ Memorial Amphitheater Benefit, NE Alabama State Fair, etc.), and we’ve opened for National touring legends such as: Pat Travers, Brother Cane, Jackyl, Red Halo, The Eric Gales Band, Col. Bruce Hampton, and The Joe Stark Band.

Here's what some pretty important folks in the Biz had to say after hearing our debut album [pay no mind to the "southern rock" label, because we aren't]: "Kick Ass Southern Rock. Good grindin' fun!", to quote guitar amplifier innovator and entrepreneur, Paul Rivera of Rivera Amplification. Even Pete Prown, [then] Editor-in-Chief of Guitar Shop Magazine, said: "I was pleasantly surprised by your high-octane southern rock. I haven't heard that stuff for years, but it still sounds rippin'. I'd give it about 3-1/2 stars [out of 5] for overall sass and kick-ass energy, plus for making me feel good." Michael Kilpatrick with TheToe.cc nightlife web site wrote of the latest release: "Long live the revolution, especially when it's right here at home. Black Label released their new CD here locally last week. The new set entitled '..the Eclectic Redneck Revolution has begun...' brings a hard-hitting metal edge to their melodic crunch. Vocalist-throat shredder David McCullough brings a soulful moan to Black Label's party, lending sweet sounds to "Comin' Home To You" and the power ballad "Soliloquy." "Walk A Mile In My Shoes" recalls pre-bullshit Jane's Addiction, while "No Pain; No Gain" and the Slick Lilly hit "Dirty Water" bring heavy doses of redneck boogie metal. Black Label turns a cheek for the gorgeous "Sun And Rain" and the deeply moving "Not My Time (Ode To Miller)." An impressive second effort for these guys, who have endured more personnel changes than Guns N' Roses in fewer years, but the core of McCullough and dedicated hand of guitarist Craig Smoot soldier on unfettered."

Thanks to having friends and supporters in the industry, the band has been fortunate enough to receive radio airplay on WRTT 95.1 FM in Huntsville, AL; WVNA 100.3 FM in Muscle Shoals, AL; KKEZ 94.5 FM in Fort Dodge, IA; and on WCMF 96.5 FM in Rochester, NY. David Havens, disc jockey for WXFL 96.1 FM in Florence, AL and longtime local band supporter, stated the following after tapping the band to headline a benefit he had organized: "[BLACK LABEL] handled every situation with professionalism, dedication to their craft and simply an overall great attitude. We are looking forward to working with BLACK LABEL again, preferably before they deservedly receive the major market success that obviously is looming in the future!"

The band is currently working on our third album, and we hope to see its release in the Fall of 2007. With our energetic sound and drive to write outside of the norm, each subsequent album has showcased our growth both as a creative collective, as well as individual musicians. Through it all we’ve continued to stretch and push past the envelope, confusing those quick to pigeonhole us, yet all the while keeping a firm grasp on our credo to write from the heart and let the music do the talking.
